The foundation for our association was laid in 2001,
when veterinarian Martina Greve, to alleviate the animal population problem
of our island, decided to spend some of her vacation time on Karpathos neutering
and spaying stray animals. From the beginning it was clear that such an
undertaking would only be possible with
the assistance of people who collaborated with her, both locally
and in helping with organizational matters in Germany.
In 2002 the German sister association Tierhilfe Karpathos e.V. was founded and in 2005 Φιλοσ τον Ζοον Καρπαθου, the local animal welfare group, was recognized through the Greek court system.
Ever since, both organizations do their best to control the stray animal population and to improve the health of all animals on Karpathos (not just cats and dogs).
